Our sailing trip begins in Tromsø, known as the Paris of the North, a vibrant city with its many bars and restaurants. From here, we sail approximately 350 nautical miles south to Bodø, passing through the heart of the Lofoten archipelago, where nature takes center stage. Therefore, unlike many of our sailing trips, we sail in day-long stages here and plan time for several shore excursions. If the weather permits and the crew desires a longer leg, we are happy to sail for extended periods. The entire route lies north of the Arctic Circle, where the sun sets only briefly at this time of year, allowing us to experience the Arctic landscape in daylight almost around the clock.
Even in summer, the weather in the Arctic is changeable and can bring strong winds. In such conditions, we use the sheltered straits between the larger islands and the mainland to find our way south. Depending on the weather, we may stop at Senja right at the beginning and spend more time on either the north or south side of the Lofoten Islands. Navigating through narrow skerries and fjords to remote islands is a true sailing challenge, which we tackle with the utmost care and the entire crew.
Steep mountains, fjords with rushing waterfalls, and white sandy beaches await us in Lofoten. We'll anchor in idyllic fishing harbors with their brightly painted wooden houses and discover mystical places. A highlight is the Trollfjord, so narrow that the rock walls rise steeply on either side of the yacht. On land, hikes to the islands' peaks and a floating sauna followed by an ice bath beckon.
