Sailing around the North Cape is one of the highlights of our sailing season. The starting and finishing point is Tromsø, the Paris of the North, which seems all the more vibrant after days spent immersed in the Arctic wilderness. We sail approximately 550 nautical miles north of the Arctic Circle towards the midnight sun, under which it never gets dark at this time of year.
Along the way, we experience the powerful nature and imposing coastline of Norway with its countless offshore archipelagos. We navigate with utmost care through narrow skerries to remote islands and discover fjords where waterfalls plunge from steep cliffs. A unique experience on land is the floating sauna followed by an ice bath.
How far north this sailing trip takes us depends on the weather. Circumnavigating the North Cape is a distance of over 500 nautical miles, which we will only attempt if there is a favorable weather window. Sea state, wind, and weather on the North Sea can be challenging. Depending on the situation, we will spend more time in the sheltered fjords or venture longer offshore legs towards the North Cape. In strong winds, we will find our way north through the protected sounds between the large islands and the mainland. We make these decisions together with the crew and handle strong wind scenarios responsibly.
On the longer legs, we sail with the entire crew on a watch system, literally around the clock in daylight under the midnight sun. On these legs, the SY Imagine demonstrates its potential as a seaworthy performance yacht. We decide together how ambitious our route will be, ensuring that there is also time for shore excursions alongside the sailing legs.
