We have approximately 1,200 nautical miles of Atlantic Ocean ahead of us as we sail from A Coruña via Madeira to the Canary Islands. This sailing trip represents true offshore sailing with long, multi-day non-stop legs.
To begin our journey, we set course for Madeira. The island lies directly on our route, making it an ideal destination before we continue on to Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. The leg to Madeira alone takes us across the open Atlantic for several days. There is no land in sight, only the vastness of the sea and the same horizon for days on end.
From the Portuguese coast onwards, the trade winds can bring us favorable northeasterly winds on this route. However, later in the year, a strong low-pressure system with strong winds and heavy seas is also possible, which we will handle responsibly. This makes weather navigation a central focus on board. When we set sail on the long legs and which course we choose depends on how the trade winds and low-pressure systems develop. You'll be there when we analyze the forecasts and determine the route.
On multi-day, non-stop legs, we live by the rhythm of the watch system, day and night. Together with the crew, you'll stand watch, helm, and trim the sails. A solid routine of watches, sleep, and life on board quickly develops. This allows you to accumulate many nautical miles and genuine offshore sailing experience in a short time. The SY Imagine combines performance and long-distance cruising. Its carbon rig provides the speed potential to reach distant destinations faster. Below deck, it's optimized for life at sea, with single berths where you can rest between watches.
