From Bodø, we sail approximately 350 nautical miles north to Tromsø, known as the Paris of the North, which feels particularly vibrant after days spent immersed in Norway's natural beauty. Our route takes us right through the heart of the Lofoten archipelago, where nature takes center stage. Unlike many of our sailing trips, we therefore sail day-long legs and allow time for several shore excursions. If the crew desires a longer leg and the weather permits, we are happy to undertake it. The entire route lies north of the Arctic Circle, and we sail towards the midnight sun, which at this time of year never sets, providing us with daylight around the clock.
Arctic weather is changeable even in summer and can bring strong winds. In strong winds, we use the sheltered straits between the larger islands and the mainland to find our way north. Whether we spend more time on the north or south side of the Lofoten Islands, or make a stop on Senja before reaching Tromsø, is decided by the entire crew depending on the weather. From a sailing perspective, this route is a real challenge, as we navigate with the utmost care through narrow skerries and fjords to remote islands.
The Lofoten Islands welcome us with steep mountains, fjords teeming with waterfalls, and white sandy beaches. We moor in idyllic fishing harbors with brightly painted wooden houses and discover mystical places. A special experience is the Trollfjord, a narrow fjord between steep cliffs, which we explore by yacht. On land, we hike to the peaks with sweeping views across the islands or warm up in a floating sauna before taking an ice bath in the cold sea.
