This sailing trip takes us approximately 800 nautical miles from the Faroe Islands across the North Atlantic to the Lofoten Islands and on to Bodø. We begin in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. These islands lie far out in the Atlantic Ocean between Scotland and Iceland, are of volcanic origin, and are characterized by steep cliffs. While we wait for the right weather window, we'll take a few days to explore these remote islands and their mystical sites. Afterwards, a multi-day, non-stop leg across the North Atlantic awaits, demanding considerable sailing skills.
The particular sailing challenge of this route is the weather. Even in summer, several low-pressure systems frequently move across the North Atlantic in succession, and it usually remains cool. Therefore, strategic weather navigation determines when we begin the non-stop passage, which course we choose between the lows, and how long the leg will ultimately be. We analyze the forecasts together on board and handle strong wind scenarios responsibly.
For the offshore leg, we anticipate approximately four to five days non-stop on the Atlantic. With the entire crew, we'll sail day and night on a watch system and quickly settle into the rhythm of watches, sleep, and life on board. During these days, the SY Imagine will demonstrate its seaworthiness and speed. We'll decide on the ambitiousness of our route together with the crew, ensuring we have enough time to explore the islands after our days at sea.
After days at sea, we set course for the Lofoten Islands, Norway's iconic archipelago with its towering mountains. Here, we'll visit idyllic fishing villages like Reine and Henningsvær with their brightly painted wooden houses. We'll spend most of our time on the Lofoten Islands ashore, hiking to the peaks with their sweeping views across the islands, or relaxing in a floating sauna followed by an ice bath. Finally, we'll sail from the Lofoten Islands to Bodø on the Norwegian mainland.
